THE WORLD HIGHLINE CHAMPIONSHIP WAS HELD IN THE SWISS ALPS

At dizzying heights with the Swiss Alps as a backdrop, slackliners compete in speed and stunt skills. The Canton of Graubünden hosts the World Highline Championships. This year 42 athletes are participating.

Men and women compete in two disciplines – freestyle and high-speed highline. German Cecilia Stock won both and received two championship titles.

In the slackline race, Stock beat her Brazilian opponent, covering the 60-meter slackline section in 52.42 seconds. In the freestyle competition, the German woman defeated the French woman by performing difficult tricks, including a somersault.

Among the men, the German Sascha Grill won the high-speed race. He set a new record by completing the race in 26.76 seconds. And the Spaniard David Palomo became the world freestyle champion. Last year he lost in skill to the American Davis Hermes, but this time he took revenge.

The championship lasts five days. The slings are tensioned at an altitude of more than 2200 meters above sea level.

The first tournament took place in 2022.
