Venice blossomed with bright colors. A whole flotilla of gondolas goes along the Grand Canal. Each rowing team entered the parade in fancy dress. The annual carnival begins in the city on the water.
Venice plunged into celebration for two weeks. The city will host masquerade balls, costume parades and other events, including the “flight of an angel” and a competition for the best mask.
Every year the Venice Carnival attracts tens of thousands of tourists from Italy and other countries.
The first costume party was held here in the 11th century. True, masks were not yet worn then. They began to be worn in the 13th – 14th centuries.
The last day of the carnival falls on Fat Tuesday. Then begins the 40-day fast before Catholic Easter.
