The Indian festival of Diwali was celebrated in London

Diwali is also the festival of lights. In India it is customary to light lanterns and candles as a symbol of the victory of good over evil.

In London, concerts and fairs are held in honor of Diwali. This year the festival was visited by the mayor of the city Sadiq Khan. He has Pakistani roots and tries to unite the different communities of the city.

A guest at the festival:

“London has always been and remains one of the most multicultural societies. It’s one of the most open societies, the most open cities in the world. And everyone is here to celebrate Diwali with us. People from different walks of life, different cultures and even different religions have come. It just goes to show that we are one people, we are one London.”

The festival is being held in London for the 23rd time. This year’s festival was attended by about 10,000 people, including tourists.
