For the first time, guests of Buckingham Palace in London will be able to stand next to the famous balcony from which British monarchs greet the people. This year the east wing of the building is opening to the public. Here is the Central room with a balcony. The east wing was built under Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.
Only members of the royal family have the right to go to the balcony. The central place is occupied by the reigning monarch. Elizabeth II was second only to the newlyweds. Apart from royalty, only two British prime ministers visited the balcony. One of them is Churchill. Guests of the palace will also be able to see in detail the Yellow Living Room with Chinese-style decoration. Its highlight is an elegant chandelier. It was recently restored. Other highlights include newly restored hand-painted Chinese wallpaper and 18th-century silk tapestries. China’s Emperor Guangxu gave them to Queen Victoria for her Diamond Jubilee in 1897.
In the Main Corridor, 70 meters long, paintings by the English painter Thomas Gainsborough, who lived in the 18th century, are hung.
A total of 19 rooms were opened to the public, including the ballroom. Tickets cost £75. This is approximately 90 euros. Sales opened in April, and all 6,000 tickets have already been sold out. The east wing will be open until September 25th.
Buckingham Palace will next open its doors to the public in 2025.
