German archaeologists have discovered the skeleton of a man who lived approximately 6,800 years ago. Local residents nicknamed the ancient man Exinger because he was found in the Exing area in the Bavarian town of Eichendorf.
Scientists believe that the deceased had a high social status. In that era, it was not yet passed down by inheritance – it had to be earned.
The high social status is also indicated by the unusual method of burial and the large number of funerary objects.
The height of the ancient man is 170 centimeters. It is difficult to know how many years he lived. The skeleton is poorly preserved. His age was determined by the ceramics found in the grave.
Ötzi is the ice mummy of a man who lived during the Copper Age. It was found in 1991 in the Ötztal Alps in Tyrol. The mummy was located at an altitude of 3200. It was exposed due to melting ice. The age of the remains is 5300 years. Ötzi is believed to be the oldest mummy discovered in Europe.
