On Lake Baikal, reserve staff took photos of seals drifting on ice floes
Employees of the Barguzinsky Nature Reserve took photographs of the mass drift of the Baikal seal on melting hummocks, as reported on the social networks of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “Reserve Podlemorye”, which includes the Barguzinsky and Frolikhinsky nature reserves, as well as the Transbaikalsky National Park.
“The ice is crowded with passengers. The Baikal seal is delighted. There is an opportunity to lie serenely on the ice, exposing its shiny sides to the warm rays of the sun, giving the opportunity to successfully complete the molting process,” wrote district state inspector Yuri Gorokhovsky.
There are thousands of animals, and apparently a significant part of them set off on a journey across Lake Baikal to the south, towards the Ushkany Islands archipelago, where seals live in the summer.
