Scientists: Cats memorize words faster than children

Many cat owners probably have no doubt that their pets understand human speech well. And now this has been scientifically confirmed. Japanese researchers have found out that cats can match words with images and objects.
The experiment involved 31 cats. Animals were shown images on a laptop several times, in parallel cats heard the words that denote them. Then they were shown pictures, but some words did not correspond to them. And the cats noticed this. And they memorized the information faster than children aged 14 months.
Cat lovers are not even surprised by the result of the research.
Scientists also say that cats memorize their own nicknames and the nicknames of other pets. In addition, they remember the names of all members of their owner’s family.
Cats were domesticated almost 10,000 years ago. Now scientists want to understand whether they have the ability to memorize words as a result of interaction with humans or whether this quality was inherent in them from the beginning.
