SANCHEZ REMAINS PRIME MINISTER OF SPAIN

The Prime Minister of Spain said that he remains in office. To make a decision about his political future, Pedro Sanchez took a five-day vacation, which shocked the country. The move was in response to a preliminary judicial investigation against his wife, Begoña Gomez.

Now Sanchez promises not only to stay, but to work even harder.

Sanchez’s announcement brought relief to his allies in the coalition government that was difficult to form last year with the support of regional leftist parties. The resignation of the prime minister would require new elections.

The opposition, in turn, reacted with ridicule.

For the residents of Madrid, all these events with vacation and reflection have caused irritation. But many are glad that things haven’t gotten worse.

Analysts believe that Sanchez’s action will not have much impact on anything. There is already no mutual understanding between political opponents in Spain.

Last week, the city court said it was reviewing a complaint filed against Sanchez’s wife. The Clean Hands organization accused her of using her position to influence business deals. At the same time, the organization admits that the conclusions were made based on articles in the media. Prosecutors said the complaint should simply be dismissed.

According to the opposition, Sanchez’s reaction was inappropriate for a European leader, and this is just a tactical move made in order to gain voter support.
