The Olympic Aquatic Center is one of two facilities that will be built in the Paris region for the upcoming Summer Games. It will be powered by 90% renewable energy.
More than 4,000 solar panels on the roof will help heat the pool water to 27 degrees, and the curved shape of the beams helps limit the space that needs to be heated and ventilated.
There are 5,000 seats for spectators inside, 2,000 of which are removable. Artistic swimming and diving competitions, as well as the qualifying stages of the water polo tournament will be held here.
The aquatic center pool was first filled with water in mid-December 2023. This required more than 5,500 cubic meters of water. This way they checked the water tightness of the pools, as well as the filtration systems throughout the facility. The second phase will take place in February, when the tanks will be emptied and refilled.
This is the most expensive building of the Paris Olympics. They spent 160 million euros on it. It is expected that the aquatic center will be put into operation at the end of February.
The Summer Olympic Games in Paris will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024. Most sports competitions will be held within the French capital.
