This summer, Northern Cyprus faced an unprecedented heat wave. Temperatures far exceeded the usual summer values and reached record highs.
Extreme temperatures: In some areas the thermometer reads over 40 degrees Celsius, which is significantly higher than the climatic norm.
Health hazards: High temperatures can provoke heat strokes and other problems, so it is recommended to limit sun exposure to 10-15 minutes.
How to protect yourself from the heat?
Avoid peak hours: Try to stay outdoors between 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., when the sun is most active.
Keep hydrated: Drink water in small amounts throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty.
Keep your home cool: Use air conditioners or fans, and close curtains and blinds to avoid overheating.
Wear light clothing: Favor light-colored and loose fabrics that will help the body “breathe”.
Rest regularly: If you are outdoors, try to take frequent breaks in the shade.
Stay healthy and keep an eye on weather forecasts.
