These food scraps will certainly end up in the recycling bin, but they won’t end up in a landfill. They will be delivered to a processing facility in Dubai. For several years now, the startup Reloop has been collecting food waste from city restaurants. Fertilizers are made from leftover food.
After collection, food waste is sorted. Then they are sent for composting. The process takes from 8 to 12 weeks.
The composting process also involves bacteria, fungi and earthworms. The finished fertilizer is packaged in bags. After that, it goes to farms throughout the United Arab Emirates.
Reloop calls the fertilizer “brown gold.” But recycling food waste doesn’t just benefit farmers.
The startup has been making fertilizers since 2021. More than a hundred restaurants supply him with food waste.
