Frenchman Com Girardot jumped into the water from a rock 44 meters high. At the same time, the speed of the fall reached 106 kilometers per hour. So the athlete set a new world record for “death jumps”. This is a very dangerous trick, and without special training it can not be performed.
Girardot made a jump near the town of Aldeacemada in Spanish Andalusia. Near the rock is located Simbarra waterfall.
According to the rules, during the jump, you must group yourself so that the body took a position similar to that of an embryo. This way, the feet and hands or knees and elbows come into contact with the water first. This is to avoid serious injury.
Com Girardot, record holder:
“The jump lasted a lot longer than I thought it would. I had it all planned out – the movements and stuff. Then, when I did all the planned moves, there were still 25 meters to the water. So I breathed a sigh of relief. It went much better than I had hoped.”
Supporting Girardeau were previous record holders Ken Stornes and Lucien Charlon.
The discipline of death diving, or “death diving,” was invented in Norway in the 1960s.
