Egyptian Omar Nok became a celebrity on social media as he posted the stages of his unique journey from Egypt to Japan. He decided to reach the Land of the Rising Sun by any means necessary, just not by airplane.
He used boats, trains, camels and even hitchhiking during his journey. More than 750,000 people signed up to his social media page during this time.
Omar Nok, traveler:
“Some people gave me rides. Once I rode on a camel, twice on a horse. I also rode behind on a motorcycle.”
For Omar, Japan was the farthest point in Asia that he could travel without getting on an airplane.
The young man traveled 46,000 kilometers through several countries. He spent 274 days on the road. The flight from Cairo to Tokyo would have taken 12 hours.
The experienced traveler had previously made long trips across Europe and America. But nothing like this.
He has hitchhiked to the holy city of Mecca, conquered the dunes of Iran, traveled through the mountains of Tajikistan and crossed the steppes of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan on horseback and camelback.
Previously, Omar worked as a financial analyst for Amazon in Germany and Luxembourg. He took the money for the trip from his savings. He also saved as much as possible on expenses. Every day he spent an average of about 25 dollars. At the same time, he spent only 88 dollars to travel through Afghanistan.
He says that strangers often helped him.
