EARTH DAY: REDUCE THE USE OF PLASTIC

A million plastic bottles are bought every minute in the world. And five trillion plastic bags are used every year. Half of all plastic produced is for single use.

These are just some of the alarming statistics from the United Nations Environment Programme – UNEP. She warns that plastic is now part of the Earth’s fossils and a marker of the current geological era.
There are campaigns around the world calling for the abandonment of the use of single-use plastic, which pollutes our seas and has been decomposing in landfills for centuries.

“Going to any American supermarket is a little plastic disaster. But each person can take separate steps to reduce the use of plastic. We often eat peanut butter, and I take it in glass jars. We bought some oranges, which I put in my reusable bag. When I buy fish, I ask you not to put it in a plastic bag, but to wrap it in paper.”

She also doesn’t buy vegetables in plastic packaging.
