The first enterprise for drying fruits and vegetables opened its doors in Northern Cyprus. The company opened in the village of Yeshilyurt in the Lefke region.
The opening ceremony of the country’s first fruit and vegetable drying enterprise took place the day before. It was attended by the wife of the TRNC President Sibel Tatar, the wife of the Turkish Ambassador to Nicosia Metina Feyzioglu, the Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources Hussein Çavuş, the Minister of Economy and Energy Olgun Amcaoglu, the Governor of the Lefke region Sadi Güneş, the Mayor of Lefke Aziz Kaya, as well as officials and local residents.
The enterprise, established as part of the country’s first Women’s Cooperative for Rural Development (4K KOOR), with the support of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TCA), will dry and pack tangerines, oranges, strawberries and bananas. The finished product is considered a healthy snack without the use of additives.
The facility will also dry traditional products such as tarhana, molekhiya and noodles. The facility, worth 45 thousand euros, will run on solar energy.
