BERLIN: NEW YEAR’S RACE AT THE GATES

BERLIN: NEW YEAR'S RACE AT THE GATES

Berliners decided to start the new year off right. More than 4,000 people gathered at the Brandenburg Gate to take part in the traditional race. Such events have been held here for half a century. But the goal is not to win.

Berbel, race participant:

“I think everyone has the same motto this year: “Peace!” Peace and health – we don’t need anything else. We have plenty of everything else.”

Suzanne, race participant:

“We want to start the new year a little healthier. Running lifts your spirits, and we really need that right now.”

Participation in the race is free, but you can simply donate any amount. The funds raised will go to help those in need.

The race route runs along the famous Unter den Linden boulevard. The participants started from the Brandenburg Gate, ran to the Berlin Cathedral and returned back. In total, the runners covered four kilometers.
