A ROUTE WHERE ONLY WOMEN WORK AS DRIVERS HAS APPEARED IN HONG KONG

In Hong Kong, buses on route 69 are now driven only by women. So the operating company wants to change people’s perceptions that a bus driver is an exclusively male profession.

Zhang Yu has been driving passengers for seven years and knows what it’s like to not be trusted. However, many passengers do not mind the fact that women drive buses. Zhang also thinks he’s doing a good job. Another plus is that irritated passengers, having decided to be rude to the driver, restrain themselves when they see a woman driving.

The bus company employs 10,000 drivers. 800 of them are women. They have been hired since 1989. By the way, a special place for rest was allocated for them in the bus depot. The company’s management plans to hire 200 more female drivers.
